ABOUT PRINTS

I care a lot about the quality of these prints and I have worked hard to ensure they are of the highest quality. I hope I’ve included all the information you might want to know here, but if you have some other questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Paper

308gsm Hahnemühle Photorag. The finish is matte. The paper has a light smooth texture to it, like watercolour paper.

The images on this page are photographs of the prints, so that you can get a sense for the paper.

PRINTING

The images are rendered at high resolution, typically around 7200 pixels wide, and then printed using a Giclée printer.

Giclée (pronounced Jee-klay) is similar to inkjet printing but the prints have:

  • higher resolution for more detail (more dots per inch)

  • 8 channels of ink for better colour definition (in addition to standard CYMK model, they use a light magenta, light cyan and 3 levels of black)

  • longer life (fade-resistant, archival inks)

HOw are the images made?

I made these images using p5js, which is a library for JavaScript, designed for creative coding.

When writing the code, the process becomes a collaboration between the computer and myself. I often start with a simple idea and it develops as I work, taking inspiration from the output generated by the machine.

In my blog you can read more detailed articles about various pieces.

archival life

The paper and ink are both archival quality and will not begin to fade for many years.
Average daylight conditions – 80 years.
Dark storage in archival box – 200 years.
