Amy Goodchild - Recent and In Progress WORKS

Meaningful Diagrams (working title, work in progress project)

This is a work in progress in which I‘m creating generated diagrams which resemble scientific illustrations. We might imagine they are notes discovered in a researcher’s notebook but, in actual fact, they are entirely invented using generative systems coded in Javascript.

One of my goals for the coming year is to finish this project and exhibit it, or some version of it, with an experience alongside. I feel I have a number of conceptual and aesthetic decisions to make which I would love feedback and support on.

Meaningful Nonsense (2025)

This is a series of prints containing sentences which are algorithmically generated using mindfully designed sentence structures, curated word lists and hand-coded grammatical rules.

56 Truths / 100 Messages (2024 - 2025)

These are two related projects in which I’ve plotted sentences onto small pieces of paper, held in gold envelopes, to gift to people at community events.

The “Truths” were built with sentence structures that convey meaning about the universe or something within it, while the “Messages” convey meaning to the reader directly.

When in Dome (2018)

When in Dome is a spatial light installation designed to explore group experience. A geodesic dome filled with lights responds to the movement of people inside, creating a space for shared interaction.

This project was created as my final piece for my Masters degree and was exhibited at a number of festivals and gallery events including Nowhere Festival (2019), Nest Festival (2019), Tinderdust (group show - 2019), Here East (degree show - 2018), The Bartlett (degree show - 2018), Decompression (nightclub event - 2018)

Flock and Blend (2020)

These two projects are visual multiplayer online experiences.

Simultaneous visitors are paired up to play together and the visuals they created intertwine with each other on the same canvas - an opportunity for an unusual and fun interaction with a stranger.

More important than the visuals on this project was the experience for participants and I wanted to include this project as creating meaningful experiences for my audience is so important to me.

After posting on Reddit, I received around 39k visitors across a few days and the work had a profound effect on people - especially since this was during peak lockdown.
